About S'kool Music

S’kool Music is a non profit organization, founded in 2003 in Orange County, California. It was created during a time of severe financial crisis that was felt at all levels of the states economy. As a result of the crisis, when budget shortfalls reached the public school level it was the music programs that were hardest hit. Budget cuts seem to affect music programs more than others since music is generally not considered “essential” to education.

In reality, music is quite necessary to a well rounded education as so many highly documented, in depth studies have shown. These studies have conclusively proven a direct link between the study of music, and the ability to learn. Realizing this, a small, but very dedicated group of concerned individuals joined together to determine ways to “help preserve the music in our schools”. From these beginnings, S’kool Music was formed.

In an effort to streamline our operations and maximize our impact, in 2007 we became a managed non profit under the Congressional District Programs Foundation. This arrangement has allowed us the freedom to focus attention on our core mission with limited staff, by reducing the distraction of daily administrative operations.

S’kool Music provides musically talented youngsters with opportunities to perform before live audiences in a variety of venues, allowing them to perfect their skills while providing entertainment for the audience. The message we emphasize is that talented performers such as these will not be available in the future if the music programs are continually cut from the schools.

S’kool Music is a true community organization in that we draw our support from the community in which we reside. Our support comes from parents, neighbors, friends and relatives of children in the school music programs, as well as community organizations such as the PTA, Chamber of Commerce, local civic groups and businesses.

We are based in Mission Viejo, in the heart of Orange County, and have held events in Rancho Santa Margarita, Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo, Santa Ana, Orange, Tustin, Costa Mesa and Venice. We will soon be expanding our reach further into Los Angeles and San Diego Counties, as we continue to grow, with the support of our sponsors and contributors.
